About me
My name is David Scribner. Dragonfly Studio is my maker space. I live and work near the shore of Lake Erie, on America’s North Coast.
I became interested in fired clay as a means of economically producing sculpture, but soon discovered the joy of decorating hand-built pottery forms as well. I love the interplay of glaze and raw, exposed stoneware. To me it’s a drawing and painting medium as much as it is sculptural and functional.
My ceramics are hand-built from slabs of stoneware, rolled out with a big rolling pin, cut according to templates designed by me, then folded and/or joined together into plates, bowls, boxes and vases. Other forms are press-molded into plaster molds taken from my own original models, while some additional forms are slip-cast into molds also taken from my original work. Oh, and I still do some purely sculptural pieces.
From 2016-2020 I was a founding member and President of Erie Clayspace Artist’s Association. In 2020 I bought my own kiln and moved my studio into my basement. In 2025 I made the decision to become a full-time artist, and made my public debut at the LEAF Open Market in Frontier Park, Erie PA. In 2026 I will be expanding my reach into other craft and art show markets as well as offering online sales.
My aim is simple: to bring a little beauty into the world and share it with others. I hope you enjoy my work.
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know."
John Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn
